GENERAL SURGERY BY LAPAROSCOPY GALLBLADDER, UMBILICAL HERNIA, INGUINAL AND HIATUS HERNIA.

In addition to weight loss surgery, we also focus on patients who urgently require a “cholecystectomy,” better known as “gallbladder removal.”
What are the advantages of performing it by laparoscopy?
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure with a rapid recovery time. We perform the entire procedure through three small holes, each approximately 1 centimeter in diameter. This ensures that the patient is ambulatory in the hospital in less than 12 hours and can be discharged within an average of 24 to 30 hours.
Another advantage is that the patient can return to their regular activities starting on the fifth day, avoiding lifting heavy objects for the first 5 to 6 weeks.
What do I need to know to remove my gallbladder?
The gallbladder is located on the right side of the abdomen, below the liver.
If you experience symptoms such as burning or pain immediately after eating, an ultrasound may be necessary to determine if surgery is necessary.
What is the first step in considering this surgery?
Once you’ve had an ultrasound, the first step is to schedule an in-person evaluation to review the results and provide you with personalized recommendations.
During the consultation, we will decide whether the surgery is urgent or whether prior preparation is necessary to schedule it.
What are the risks of not removing the gallbladder?
In most cases, if severe symptoms are present and the gallbladder is not removed, the patient is at risk of developing gallstones that can obstruct the pancreatic duct and cause pancreatitis.
If the gallbladder ruptures, bile is released into the abdomen, which can cause a serious infection and severe pain. This is a life-threatening situation and requires immediate attention.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If I am obese, can I have gallbladder removal surgery?
If the patient has a body mass index (BMI) greater than 35 (grade 2 obesity), it is recommended to undergo a procedure combined with weight loss surgery.

Otherwise, the patient would have to undergo prior preparation, which would include physical activity and a diet plan, to reduce their weight before the procedure.
Conversely, if a patient planning weight-loss surgery presents symptoms related to gallbladder problems, a bariatric procedure accompanied by gallbladder removal would be necessary, as these symptoms can intensify with weight loss, which would require further surgery at a later date.
If I have a navel hernia, can I have both surgeries performed at the same time?
This will depend on the patient’s health status. Before surgery, laboratory tests and an evaluation by an internist on the team are required. If the patient is suitable, two or even three procedures can be performed in a single intervention.
This would reduce both recovery time and overall cost, as the patient would avoid multiple surgeries and recoveries.
