IMPORTANCE OF PRENATAL CONTROL

A complete medical history should be taken, some lab tests ordered, and education about a healthy pregnancy provided.

The objectives of prenatal child control:

-Evaluate the health status of the mother and fetus.

-Establish the Gestational Age.

-Evaluate possible risks and correct them.

-Plan prenatal check-up appointments.

-Indicate folic acid as soon as possible, to prevent neural tube defects, as well as prenatal vitamins

-Closely monitor the growth of the fetus throughout the pregnancy.

-Adjust the nutritional needs of both the mother and the fetus, throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.

-Reduce the risk of complications such as premature birth.

-Laboratories for: communicable and non-transmissible diseases, infections, anemia and others.

-Early detection tests, such as gestational diabetes, others.

-Prevention of neonatal tetanus, vaccination.

-Monitoring weight gain, among others.

Having regular control from a very early stage allows us to identify patients with a higher obstetric and perinatal risk, in addition to contributing to healthy behaviors during pregnancy.

We could logically assume that a woman with a higher number of prenatal visits would obtain better results; however, many women with risk factors will not develop complications, while others without risk factors will. Therefore, the needs of Each pregnant woman should be evaluated from the first appointment and reassessed in each of the consultations they receive during prenatal control, because new diseases can arise at any time during pregnancy.
